Welcome Folks to my ‘website-underway’! my name is sophie and I'm a late-starter artist engaged in the exploration of colour and pattern for beautiful forms and spaces, an enterprise i call “kaleidocopias”. Kaleidocopias is a term I’ve coined from THE compound of “kaleidoscope” and “cornucopia”, which describes ‘beautiful forms in abundance’.
I make a bunch of different things and have long dreamt of marrying discrete skills and materials together with my own seamless patterns for layered, hand-crafted rooms that say 'opulence without clutter', ‘legacy without fust’!
On the blog pages you’ll find: images of objects I’ve made or beautified; materials and techniques I have explored; the stories of my work; the account of my ongoing journey with my Sweetie to establish a legacy of beauty we can share with others.
in the portfolios called, “seamless patterns” and “mutualist artworks” are a series of virtual rooms and designs for needlepoint heirlooms. the pattern designs can be purchased as print-on-demand wallpapers and homewares from spoonflower and the limited edition counted-thread charts are available exclusively from this site. additionally, at a later date, digital artworks will be made available for purchase in a third portfolio called, “artist made”.
the gallery above is a sampling of some of my work past and present, representing some of the skills and materials my husband and I will bring to bear on the journey through the furnishing of our own home - our “design lab”. We’ll concentrate and test our ideas; the things we design and make, the things we find and beautify, and the patterns we conceive, here where we live. Please consider these pages an invitation to join us on the adventure! in the gallery below are some ideas PREVIOUSLY realised, some variation of which will be translated to our current home-based endeavour. ps my work usually marries photos of my own handmade objects to image editing software but I don’t use ai.
